Eurasian eagle-owl / Bubo bubo
Every photograph has a story, this one is quite extraordinary for me. When I went to my favourite viewpoint I took only wide angle and macro lenses, I couldn´t think what I would shoot with a telephoto lens. On the way to the lookout I shot close-ups in the woods and even captured a dragonfly basking in the sun. She posed for quite a long time. I continued on and enjoyed the view at the lookout. Suddenly I heard a familiar sound of a bird, but I didn´t want to believe it. I thought, "here?" After a while, again. I started to look around and across a small valley I noticed what looked like a rock moving. It was him, the Eurasian eagle-owl. Only the longest lens I had with me was a 100mm macro. So I had to get closer. I approached cautiously, but I could tell he knew I was there. I took a few pictures every time I could. Much to my surprise, Owl was probably as curious as I was. I ended up on a rock ledge with a direct line of sight through the trees at about 3 to 4m. He was looking directly at me while I was taking photos, but he was also looking to the side. He also let me video him with my cell phone and then quietly flew away. I sat there a while longer, trying to take in the amazing encounter in an unexpected place.
